The purpose of this consultation is to decide if you are a good candidate, what are your surgical options (augmentation only or combined with other procedures), how is the surgery carried out, and what to expect from it

 

During the first part of the consultation,you will have to answer to some questions about your past medical history, what surgical procedures you already had , what medical conditions you may have , what current medication you are taking and if you have any allergy to medication.It is also important to mention what is your profession, what kind of sports you are doing(some may be not appropriate after that type of surgery), and if you are still considering getting pregnant in the near future.You also have to say what are your expectations.

Then, comes the examination part of the consultation, when you have to undress and show to your surgeon what bothers you .Is it a problem of volume, of shape?ist it the saginess you want to correct etc..

He will have a look at your buttocks , will take some measurements and some photographs ( that will stay in your file only)

 
 

If it is a problem of volume, he will explain that you have two options:with or without implant

 

 If it is without an implant , you have the choice between using your own fat , if you have enough available(your surgeon will explain how the procedure is carried out),or using some hyaluronic acid (Macrolane)(easy to use but not lasting more than a few months)
 

 If an implant is needed, you will be explained how the procedure is carried out and particularly,the preoperative tests, the type of anesthesia (general or sedation), the location and the length of the incision (5cms long , in between the buttocks), the intramuscular position of the implant, the type of silicon gel implant used (round or ovale shape, smooth surface implants), the different sizes and projections available, the stitches used , the drains that you have to keep for one day or more, and the kind of dressing.

Then, you will be explained everything about the post operative period:the sleeping position, when you can start walking, when you can start sitting down, and when you can go back to work or to the gym.

Then , your surgeon will give you the limits of this augmentation ( limited number of sizes, limits du to the dimensions of your own muscle, but also ,necessity to maintain an harmonious curve of your buttock )

 

He also will mention the normal side effects after surgery such as :pain (7 to 15 days), swelling (21 days), numbness) and the potential risks which are :infection ,wound opening,seroma, bleeding, displacement of implant, capsule contracture, implant rupture, life expectancy of implants

 

If it is not only a problem of augmentation, you will have to explain what bothers you:

 It can be some fat deposits on the love handles or on the outer thighs that will need to be suctioned out,in order to sculpt and enhance the contour of the buttocks

 it can be a problem of sagginess or lack of tone,which can affect part of the buttock or all of it(but generally the lower third).then , a buttock lift can be necessary, usually requiring a scar underneath the buttock where excess skin and fat will be removed

 It can be an asymmetry of the buttocks (natural or post traumatic, or even due to previous surgery)

 it can be a change of buttock implants, when , for any reason , they are not suitable anymore
